Three Whispers, 2024

Shadow installation: marker on celluloid, rotating mechanisms, dimensions variable.

Site-specific installation located in the historical Sasayaki Shrine in Omachi, Japan.

The title of the piece references the place, as ‘sasayaki’ means ‘whisper’ in Japanese. I work with architecture by creating a traceless moving fresco drawing on the walls. Images from my fairytales are intertwined with abstract elements in a continuous line. The features of classic Japanese housing, where the threshold between the interior and the exterior is easily passed and sometimes invisible, expand the fresco to the street. The materiality of the house is dissolved in the unfurling of shadows.

This installation was part of the Northern Alps Art Festival, 2024.
