“Picket”, watercolor and acrylic paintings, 2019
The “Picket” is a large watercolour work with figures in red camouflage carrying empty banners. The artwork was made in the wake of Moscow anti-corruption rally in the Spring of 2019. Hundreds of people participated in the protests, demanding freedom for the journalist Ivan Golunov falsely accused of drug-dealing. Unprecedented solidarity in the local community and horizontal networks inspired the form and shape of the artwork. The “Picket” was first shown as a window installation in Garage Studios and Artist Residencies. Afterwards, the artwork became a part of Muromtseva’s solo show “What happens to others” in the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, taking up a room filled with a series of vertical human-sized drawings.
