“On Its Place”, multimedia project: video, photo, work with the archive (2015-2016)

A site-specific installation was designed for the Institute of Philosophy in Russian Academy of Science and responded to the building architecture and its history. Merging with interior surroundings, the reflective surfaces of the artist’s intervention — sites of employees’ memories rendering in audio-visual exhibits — draw on curated phrases from the artist’s interviews with academic members. This complex installation offers a dynamic set of reflections placed around the building regarding the live temporality and its special aura that explore intimate relation between inhabitants and their surroundings. Capable of being viewed through careful contemplation as well as body experience when walking in the midst of living memory, there is a feeling of a spiritual presence animating the building. This choreographed space re-orientates the viewers’ perception of the Academy’s environment in ways that are subtle and sensational.
